Trail Name: | Wat Khao Bot |
Trail Location: | Rayong |
Trail Type: | Short Single Track Circuit |
Trail Difficulty: | Easy |
For cycling enthusiasts in the know, Rayong is home to a number of well maintained trails all within easy reach of the town and Wat Kao Bot is another mountain biking trail in Rayong that has been created and well maintained by a loyal group of residents in Rayong.
As the name suggests, there is a Wat or temple located on top of the hill which has some nice views of the surrounding area. The mountain biking trail itself starts about half way up and is clearly marked. Follow the road up the hill and you will see markers pointing into the forest. As the hill is small, the trail doubles back on itself several times but arrows clearly mark where to go. The total length is just under 3km but as it is a loop you can do as many laps as you wish, and if you are into downhill, there are a number of jumps at the bottom of a steep hill used for downhill competitions.
A fair degree of fitness is recommended as the trail switches from steep downhill to steep uphill regularly, and the humidity in the jungle can make it tough going. There is a mixture of mud/dirt and gravel trails and various berms and jumps to add interest.
To get to the trail, go to the Thappma intersection from highway 36 and head North on Clongchangtai-Nongsanom st for several km until you reach a junction. Turn left, then immediately right and you will see the temple on the hill and a flooded quarry on the right side. You can park anywhere along this road.
