Gees House Trail

A popular downhill trail in Chiang Mai, Gees house trail starts at the Hmong village at Ban Khun Chang on Doi Suthep. An interesting addition is the Northern ridge that can include the summit of Doi Suthep at 1,685m and follow a very narrow ridge lined by large pine trees with stunning valley views and some technical downhill, in some parts very steep. It is also worth spending some time at the village enjoying a coffee and taking in the atmosphere and the views.

Gees house trail is a long single track with some steep rocky sections, ruts, gravel and dirt trails. Some sections towards the top of the hill are quite technical, as you progress downhill the going gets a little easier and it is very fast and flowing as you descend further towards Chiang Mai city. It is recommended to go with a guide or an experienced local as there are lots of trails used by farmers in the area and it can get confusing. Trailhead Thailand offers guided tours of this trail and more in the region.

Getting There

If you want to attempt this trail without a guide, take a songtaew from the zoo to a small temple near the summit called ‘Sun Koo’.  Follow the road for 4km to the village and turn right just before the school.  The trail ends at a dhamma center near the convention center.
