For people looking for a half day cycling trip from Bangkok, mountain biking in Chachoengsao makes for a worthwhile trip, specifically at a small temple called Wat Suwankhiri. This mountain biking track whilst small is well maintained and remains popular for a small but loyal group of mountain biking fans.

There are numerous trails for bikers to take, the most popular trail is around 10-13km in length, depending on the route and combines a variety of terrain with a good combination of downhill, technical and uphill climbs with the trail consisting of smooth single track as well as rocky areas through jungle, bamboo groves and through farm trails at the base of the hill.

The maximum elevation is only 238m and so it does not require too much effort to reach the top, however be sure to bring plenty of water. The route starts in the grounds of Wat Suwankhiri at a small restaurant as you turn off the main road. Most people will turn left at the temple and follow the base of the hill on dirt tracks around the edge of farmland until it reaches a metal fence. From here, the trail gets steep and after a couple of hundred metres passes a private house. There are several barking dogs living at the house but no need for alarm, they are quite harmless and you can continue to the left and up the hill to the summit. There is a small clearing on the summit where you can sit down and take a break, before a short downhill will take you onto the main trail that runs through the centre of the hill. Look out for a 90 degree left turn that takes you from the track onto the single track which will take you to the Northern end of the hill.

The track follows the ridge of the hill for several km along a narrow track, with plenty of roots, loose stones and low hanging branches to test you and your bike; you will also pass through interesting bamboo plantations and wooded areas which makes for interesting scenery. Towards the Southern end of the hill the trail splits, the right trail will take you too a large reclining buddha whilst the left trail will take you down the hill to the base from which is a 1km cycle back to the restaurant at the start.

The restaurant at the start of the trail serves great Thai food and there are basic shower facilities for anyone to use.
