Mae Taeng Cycling Trails
Description | Details |
Trail Name: | Jurassic Park |
Trail Location: | Mae Taeng District, Chiang Mai |
Trail Type: | Enduro |
Trail Difficulty: | Hard |
This is a grueling 44km enduro mountain biking trail with 1800m of gain taking in spectacular scenery and amazing single and double track along the way. The trail starts with a several km climb along the paved road up to a Hmong village nestled among cabbage fields and undulating hills. From here the trail turns to a duel track dirt road for several more km to the summit of the mountain at an elevation of 1713m. There are some beautiful views of Chiang Dao, Thailand’s 3rd highest summit to the North and of the valley below as you cycle through tall pine groves which grow at this elevation.
After the climb you will be rewarded with some stunning downhill along fast and flowy double and single track with intermittent sections of loose gravel, roots, ruts and switchbacks as you snake your way down the mountain back towards the Mae Taeng valley. Eventually the forest gives way to farmland and more double track before reaching the main road which passes by some popular attractions such as the Elephant Nature Park and 8Adventures.
What to Bring
There is nowhere to buy food or water on the way so bring plenty. Once you start the next place to stock up is in the Mae Teang valley after about 38km of riding. Plan on being out for at least 8 hours so leave early and prepare for inclement weather and unforeseen problems that may arise.
