Khao Kheow is a region an hour South East of Bangkok and 30-45 minutes North of Pattaya in Chonburi province. The area makes up part of the Chompoo wildlife sanctuary, created in 1974 and 145 km² in size. It is an important area for conservation and home to a number of animal species.
There are a number of trails around Khao Kheow, perhaps the best being to the South and at the entrance to the Khao Kheow open zoo. Depending on the route you take this can be up to 40km of single track, double track and paved road through farmland and forested areas. Along the way you will cross small rivers, hump your bike through long grass and enjoy some fast sections of single track.
It is not advisable to attempt the trail without GPS as the trails are often overgrown and it is all unmarked, however there are several places where you will pass through small villages serving food so it is unlikely you will be stuck in the wilderness. The best place to park your car is the entrance to Khao Kheow open zoo.
