Rayong is becoming something of a mountain biking hub in Thailand with a keen group of cycling enthusiasts creating and maintaining a number of mountain biking trails in Rayong, many of which are minutes from the city center.
The Sandy Forest Trail is a short loop set amongst a small wood and mangroves close to the sea with a mix of sand, dirt deep mud if it has been raining as well as a number of jumps, S-bends and raised platforms for the added bit of fun.
The trail remains flat throughout and so you do not need a top of the range downhill bike or be super fit, you can ride it at your own pace and for the more competitive riders time each loop to improve your personal best. The trail is generally used by people living in Rayong who just want to exercise and get away from the traffic.
The forest canopy is thick meaning that you can ride any time during the heat of the day and the sea is just a couple of kilometers South for those wanting to cool off and enjoy a drink at one of the many restaurants lining the beach.
Sandy Forest Trail is perhaps not recommended during the rainy season as the mud can get deep in places but for those constantly seeking a new experience it is worth combining with a trip to Khao Yai Da or another cycling track in Rayong, or for those living in Rayong it makes for a perfect quick getaway if you are craving some biking fun.
