The road cycling tour from Bangkok to Phuket is 10 days and 9 nights in duration with 8 days of cycling and 1 rest day in the middle. Guests will stay in resorts of an excellent standard; most of the resorts have swimming pools and massage facilities. Often the resorts have beachfront access, or just a few minutes stroll to the beach. More than just cycling, Amazing Bike Tours want the road cycling tour to be a culinary exploration of the local cuisine and guests will enjoy many authentic Thai specialties and fresh seafood as the group travels down the coasts never far from the ocean. This route is designed for road bikes, 100% of the tour being on good condition roads. Most of the stages are flat, with a few stages having gentle rolling hills. The shortest stage is just 65km, whilst the longest stage is141km. This cycling tour includes a support vehicle fully stocked with cold drinks, fresh fruit and spare bikes is always close by. In case any of our guests find the riding too difficult the option to join the support van is always available. Each day after completing the ride we will have plenty of time to relax by the pool, swim in the ocean and enjoy a massage to prepare the legs for the next days ride.
Day 1 : Meet the Amazing Bike Tours team in Bangkok Amazing Bike Tours suggests guests arrive in Bangkok a few days before the start of the Cycle tour so you have time to rest after your travels from your home country to Thailand. This will also provide you with time to enjoy the capitol. There are dozens of fascinating sights, from the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun, take a riverboat cruise, visit markets and of course the world famous shopping malls. The hotel is in Silom district, close to many attractions and close to the metro and skytrain system. An evening meeting will provide essential information about the Bangkok to Phuket cycle tour. Participants will be given an Amazing Bike Tours cycle jersey and then guests will enjoy a meal and get to know each other.
Day 2/Stage 1: Petchaburi – Hua Hin: 84 km/ 52 Miles The cycling tour starts by driving just under 2 hours south of Bangkok to escape the traffic chaos so we can enjoy our cycling on more relaxed roads. In Petchaburi we will unload and assemble the bikes. From this point we will cycle the entire distance to Phuket, unless you chose to skip a section and use the support vehicle. This flat stage will have us cycling past Salt fields and ocean views. The group will stop in the beach town of Cham Am after cycling 60km for a leisurely lunch. Then after another 24kms the group will arrive in Hua Hin a famous beach town with close ties to the Thai Royal family.
Day 3/Stage 2: Hua Hin – Kuiburi: 84km/52 Miles Participants cycle south from Hua Hin through Thai countryside. The route will go through the scenic Sam Roi Yot National Park with towering mountains providing the scenery as we cycle along flat roads. The stage will end at a quiet beach with only a few hotels away from the more developed tourist beaches.
Day 4/Stage 3: Kuiburi – Haad Baan Grood: 102km/64 Miles Stage 3 will be a combination of back roads with a few sections on the highway, but a wide shoulder for bikes means we can always safely enjoy the ride. Small villages, Palm trees and ocean views will greet our cyclists on this stage, which is mostly flat. The small beach village, which we are heading to is delightful, the hotel just a few steps away from the beach. An impressive Thai Temple is situated on the headland overlooking the bay, which is well worth a visit if you can tear yourself away from the pool or beach in the afternoon.
Day 5/Stage 4: Haad Baan Grood – Chumpon: 130km/ 81 Miles The entire route today is on back roads with rice paddies, coconut tree plantations, fishing villages and endless ocean views. The later part of the stage has some gentle rolling hills. The beach of Ao Thung Wua Laen is our finishing point for the day, located 15 km (9 miles) north of Chumphon.
Day 6/Rest Day Sleep in, relax, get a massage, read a book, take a stroll along the beach. The tour bus is available if you wish to visit some of the local attractions. If eight days of cycling during this trip is not enough, head out for a ride and explore the area. On this day we only include breakfast at the hotel and the rest of the day is yours to do as you please. Amazing Bike Tours recommend guests conserve some energy as there is still another 4 days of cycling to reach the island of Phuket.
Day 7/Stage 5: Chumpon to Ranong: 141km/88 Miles An early start is required to tackle the tours longest stage. After 15km riders will cycle through Chumpon town and then head west saying goodbye to the Gulf of Thailand. This stage will go through the Isthmus of Kra, the narrowest point of the peninsular, participants will be able to look across the river with views of Myanmar. This stage will include some rolling hills and a road with numerous curves and jungle-clad mountains. Lunch will be eaten on route and the stage will be completed in the Spa Town of Ranong. After checking in to the hotel, guests can visit the local hot pools to relax the muscles.
Day 8/Stage 6: Ranong to Kuraburi: 126km/79 Miles The journey continues southwards, lush greenery and waterfalls make this one of the more scenic sections and the kilometers will roll past quickly. Guests will check into the unique hotel set among the rainforest where you can take in the views, breath the cooler air or take a swim in the pool.
Day 9/Stage 7: Kuraburi to Khao Lak: 74km/46 Miles A short and easy stage today means the group can enjoy a more leisurely start this morning. We descend from the resort, reaching the historic town of Takupa, which was a key trading port in previous times. Upon reaching the town, guests will now be on the Andaman coastline. From here the group will continue South to the seaside resort of Khao Lak. The beach side resort will provide plenty of time to relax and enjoy the afternoon.
Day 10/Stage 8: Khao Lak to Phuket: 117km/73 Miles The final stage! The stage starts with a small climb as cyclists leave Khao Lak and then it is flat roads all the way to Phuket Island. Once Sarasin Bridge is crossed, which connects Phuket Island to Phang Nga province, there are several different routes to reach the end point, which is the Amazing Bike Tours shop in Karon Beach. Feel proud of your achievement of cycling all the way to Phuket, sad that this epic Thailand cycling adventure is over.
