Kayaking in Nakhon Nayok

Just 2 hours from Bangkok is the small town of Nakhon Nayok, a popular destination for kayaking trips and rafting alike. Whilst prior to the dam construction kayaking was limited to the rainly season between April and November but now there are great conditions year round. With the easy accessiblity, Kayaking in Nakhon Nayok is one of the better locations for kayaking, whether for a day trip or an overnight stay.

Camping is popular as tents can be hired from just 200 THB for 1 night and placed right next to the river, allowing quick access to the river rapids! Should camping not be your thing then bungalows are available in the region of 800 THB depending on the season, or more accommodation is available in the town centre away from the river.

There are shops renting out kayaks of various sizes to suit all abilities and kayaking styles and all safety equipment is provided. Daily rates are 1000THB for equipment hire.

Class 1 – Easy
The easiest and safest level with fast moving water, ripples and small waves with few obstructions, all obvious. Easily rescued

Class 2 – Novice
Straightforward rapids with wide clear channels evident without scouting. Rocks and medium-sized waves easily missed by trained paddlers. Easily rescued.

Class 3 – Intermediate
Rapids with moderate and irregular waves. Strong eddies and powerful currents, particularly on large volume rivers. Good boat control is required in tight passages and around ledges. Scouting is advisable. Rescue is possible.

Rubber rafts and kayaks for rent are available from trip operators situated on site.
Rental fees are 1,500 – 2,000 baht per rubber raft. Operators also provide essential safety gear such as life jackets, safety helmets, ropes and items needed for rescue efforts. Set off from Klong Ta Daan pier just behind the dam. Trips range from 30 – 90 minutes.
