Bangkok Roller Derby Presents Siam Skate-tacular!
Bangkok Roller Derby proudly present Thailand’s first international roller derby event; two days of training, playing and, of course, skating!
On Saturday, September 30th, Bangkok Roller Derby will welcome over twenty professional skaters from across Asia to train together in a roller derby bootcamp led by professional roller derby player, Courtney Stephens aka Loveless, from the Okinawa Roller Derby team. The next day (October 1st) these players will take to the track and deliver two public scrimmages for audiences to watch and learn all about this amazing sport.
Roller derby is a points-based, team contact sport an 80+ year history. The game is played wearing four-wheeled “quad” style roller skates on a flat, oval track. Two teams battle it out skating around the track to score as many points as possible. Positions include jammers, who can score points, and blockers, who have to stop the other team from skating past and scoring those points. It’s fast, it’s furious, it’s fun and it’s all played on roller skates!
The event, which brings together skaters from Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai Roller Derby teams, has been made possible through partnership with the Pan-Asian Spring Rollers; a collaborative league formed by these Asian leagues to give skaters without direct access to roller derby an opportunity to join, practice, and compete. This year alone, the Pan-Asian league has competed in the Okinawa Tomodachi Tournament and supported members Shanghai and Hong Kong Roller Derby events as well. Now it’s Bangkok’s turn!
The public scrimmages will be held on Sunday 1st October for all to enjoy. There will be two back-to-back games, with entertainment from a local inline skating team and a raffle prizes for the lucky audience members.

About Bangkok Roller derby:
Bangkok Roller derby is Thailand’s first and only roller derby team. It was founded in 2013 by a professional British skater and has since welcomed players from America, France, Canada, Britain, South Africa, Sweden and, of course, Thailand. The team is currently managed by, Claudia España aka Jean Claude Van Slam, however the ultimate goal for Bangkok Roller Derby is to be a Thai-run and Thai-coached team that can successfully participate in international roller derby events. Establishing roller derby in Thailand as a sport that can grow across nationwide can provide opportunities in fitness, travel, and making new friends! Eventually, a junior roller derby league for children will help to aid in recruitment for this fantastic sport.
