Snorkeling in Koh LipeKoh Lipe is one of the new frontiers in travel in Thailand. An hour off the coast by speedboat this small island is fast becoming a new mecca for divers, snorkelers and beach lovers from all over the world. The island is starting to suffer from over development and old bungalows are quickly being sold to make way for more modern resorts and the interior of this island is being developed at a fast pace. Despite this the island retains a certain charm and remains very laid back - for now. Snorkeling in Koh Lipe is a rewarding experience however and far better than anywhere on the gulf of Thailand and many Andaman islands. It is possible just to wade out onto a good reef from any of the islands beaches and you will be treated to good visibility, healthy coral and good marine life. The real reward comes from the various boat trips available to the islands in Tarutao national park. For as little as 400 THB per person per trip you can experience several great snorkeling spots off Koh Lipe, each offering something different to the previous spot. Numerous hard and soft corals are plentiful and very healthy compared to more well known destinations such as Phi Phi and Phuket. The sea life is also a lot better thanks to the marin park status and limitations on fishing in the area. Snorkeling in Koh Lipe rewards visitors with views of moray eels, lionfish, stonefish, rays, pufferfish and many more, if you are lucky you may spot the occasional shark or turtle. Snorkeling trip organizers will always stop for lunch on one of the many beautiful islands which are uninhabited and home to virgin rainforest which is rare in Thailand. The beaches are stunning and in pristine condition.
