A great way to escape the city is to drive to the small town of Nakon Nayok where they have some good kayaking near the dam.  There are camping spots alongside the river and it is a nice place for a picnic too.  There are also some nice waterfalls in the area and good walks.  Just 2 hours from Bangkok Nakon Nayok makes for a great weekend!
